TWO SWORDS
Luke 22:35-38
They had two swords who had no use for swords!?
(What are two swords against a multitude?)
He’d sent them out with purpose to do good,
not harm. But now he spoke unthinkable words:
“Sell your cloak, if you must, but buy a sword.”
When they confessed that they, in fact, had two,
he did not ask them what they meant to do
with them, but said, “Enough! Enough to accord
with the prophecy numbering me among the lawless.”
What use to him were swords? They only served
to suggest the Lord of Peace had swerved
and taken up the violence of the reckless.
But Peter’s sword drew blood from another man,
and he learned he could not take that path again.
